activex script jobs

Can anyone tell me why I get this error when trying to run a job on sql 2005
that is an activex script?
Error creating security descriptor for shared objects (reason: No mapping
between account names and security IDs was done). The
step failed.
I even tried credentials, proxy accounts etc. I might need to have a good
instruction sheet to explain how to properly set this up.
Please give more information about the owner of the job, agent service
account details and also the configuration (like OS/SP/Language/cluster?)

Active Directory Domain Local Groups

Hi,
I have the following problem with AD an RS: when creating a group of users
as a "domain local group" in AD, i'm able to give a specific item-level role
in RS to members of this group. But it looks like rights are not effective
for those users. For example if the group is defined as "reader" on a folder,
group members can't see it in RS!
Everything works fine when the created group is a "global group" in AD.

Account problem when creating a new publication

I've got SQL Server Developer installed on my laptop. I'm trying to get
merge replication to work, but when I try to create a new publisher, when I
select the option to make SQL Server on my laptop its own distributor, I
then get an error msg. saying I've chosen a local system account, and
replication will not work. It then sends me to a publications properties
form to select a new account. I have no other accounts, this is just run
from my laptop. Can some kind soul help me and tell me what I need to do
to get this working?
My end result is to be able to get merge replication set up so I can sync.
with a handheld device using SQL Server 2000 CE.

The account that SQL Server and the Agent need to run in something other

Accidental Log Shipping?

Hi there, was just wondering...
I setup database replication , creating a publisher and a subscriber....
all seemed to go well.
Anyway, my question is... Can Log Shipping be setup accidently while doing
this process? I know nothing
about log shipping.. and someone is trying to point blame on me for creating
'Log shipping'.
Is it possible that I could have created log shipping without even knowing..
or does it require a bit of know how.
Also... if Log shipping was setup... Does it run automatically?
And last but not least.. If it was setup, and the standby server was turned
off.. and not running... Would log shipping run?
Sorry about my ignorance.. but I have a feeling the people who are making
these accusations are out to create / pass blame across to poor old me for
their own mistakes.

That depends. On SQL Server Enterprise Edition and Developer Edition it is
conceivable that someone could blunder their way through the wizard being
totally ignorant about what they are doing. However most noobs would get
scared and back out of the dialogs pretty soon fearing they were doing
something destructive.
On other editions log shipping requires significant "programming" and the
chances of setting it up unintentionally are very remote.
It is possible that you scheduled transaction log dumps which are an
important step in log shipping (but only the first step and not the only
step). This can be done using the maintenance wizard.
All in all its pretty remote.

If it was in my error, Would there have to be transactions in the
msdb.logshipping_primaries / secondaries table on the standby server to show
that Log shipping actually took place?
Where on the stanby server could I check history of Log shipping taking
place.

P.S. They have already 'supposedly' turned off Log shipping on the primary
machine... but the 'accused' standby machine hasnt been connected to the
network for months.. so if log shipping did take place months ago before it
was removed from the network, would I be able to check its history some how.

this up. Using the wizards in 2000 or 2005, you would have to wade through
at least half a dozen screens, some of which have at least a dozen options
that have to be set. You could conceivably load up a script from a Resource
Kit, hit the button and create a log shipping set up, but you would have to
edit the script in the first place with at least server names and share
names, not something that I would call accidental. So, I would pretty much
have to say that it is not possible to "accidentally" setup log shipping.
That would be pretty analogous to someone accidentally building a house, it
just doesn't happen.
If log shipping is setup, you will see at least 3 jobs. Backup, copy, and
restore. The backup jb will generally be on the primary. The copy and
restore would generally be on the secondary. You will have the backup job
creating the backups in a share on the primary. The copy job would pull
them from the share on the primary to the share on the secondary. So you
can look in two places for the pieces. SQL Server Agent will have the jobs.
The file system on both primary and secondary will have a share created
which will contain tran log backups.

I seem to have a problem creating a model for my AS cube through Report Manager.

I have set up the data source as follows:

Name: Gates Aust Business Intelligence

Connection Type: MS SQL Server Analysis Services

Connection String: Data Source=MANT4003;initial catalog="GAPL Sales Analysis"

Connect Using: Windows Interegrated Security

This part works, but when i go to generate the model, i get the following error in the browser:

I have tried searching the forums and cannot find anything really helpful. I have had one cube setup and a model generated before and all was workin, but i had to delete it and i recreated the SSAS cube from scratch.

My user account has admin rights on the cube and also on the servers.

Server is Windows 2003

Client is Windows XP.

Any one got anythoughts on this or how i can determine what is wrong.?

Apologies if this is in the wrong newsgroup...
I have followed the tutorial in Books Online that is called "Creating the
nwind Virtual Directory". Everything looks ok but I get an error that
says: -
"HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found. Internet Information Services
(IIS) when I try to test it using http://<IISServer>/nwind?sql=SELECT * FROM
Employees FOR XML AUTO&root=root
I have looked all over trying to find out what I have done wrong :(
Is there anything else that needs to be set up?

You did change <IISServer> for the actual server name?
If all the properties look ok, then you may want to try restarting the web
server to see if that helps.
Make sure that you can ping the database server from the web server.

Yes, I amended "<IISServer>" to "myserv"
Excuse my ignorance but I'm not sure about restarting the web server. Do you
mean the 'World Wide Web Publishing Service' in 'Services'?

The database is on 1 drive, the virtual directory has been set up and I'm
trying to retrieve the data using the same server.
So, no web hosting/external parties as everything is internal.

Information Services on the Administrators menu.
If all directories/permissions exist and are correct, you may want to try
removing the directory and re-creating it. Check the IIS logs to see if
there is more information.

Apologies if this is in the wrong newsgroup...
I have followed the tutorial in Books Online that is called "Creating the
nwind Virtual Directory". Everything looks ok but I get an error that
says: -
"HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found. Internet Information Services
(IIS) when I try to test it using http://<IISServer>/nwind?sql=SELECT * FROM
Employees FOR XML AUTO&root=root
I have looked all over trying to find out what I have done wrong :(
Is there anything else that needs to be set up?

Advanced tab of IE Options? This should give you more precise error
messages.
In the mean time, please ensure that you enable sql queries on the virtual
directory settings.

Accessing SQL Svr 2000 on NT4 box

We have recently upgraded our web server to Windows 2000 and loaded the .net platform. I have starte creating ASP.net programs, but our database server that houses the Sequel Server 2000 database is running on NT4. We are waiting for the money to be approved for a new database server with Windows 2000. Is it OK to be accessing sequel server on a NT4 machine from an ASP.net program? I have the connection to the server set up in the web.config file.

This database server hung up for no apparent reason this weekend and had to be rebooted. Only I have access to the new ASP.net pages and was testing them for the first time this last friday.

Accessing SQL Server temp table for Access Project

I am trying to use a temp table as the record source for a listbox on a access project form.
I have no problem creating the temp table and inserting data to it, but I can't access it from MS Access (every thing works on Query Analyzer).
I know that local temp tables are deleted when the connection is lost, but I'm on the same form that create the temp table, why can't I access the data??
(It works when I use global temp tables like ##Test, but I can't use global temp tabels for my application)

Nope - it is dropped when the batch completes.

Can you run your code in debug and check this out?|||I think that Nigel is right. Once the batch completes the local temp table is dropped. If you want to return the entries from your temp it would be better to put all the SQL statements in a SP that returns your recordset (use ADODB command object)

The problem is that your code is using a second connection to populate the list box than the one that created the table. If you have an adp project, you shouldn't have to make a new connection or even create a temporary table. Just set your listbox's source directly, and remember to requery it to show the results:

Accessing printer settings in the sql reporting services 2000

I am using Visual Studio 2003 and SQL Reporting Services 2000. I am creating a Intranet based application which will be used by our company employees only. I want to know how can I set a printer, paper tray and paper size in the report settings, so that user need not to change the printer settings for each report. In the application some of the reports will be printed on pre-printed paper, some on the plain paper. and i want to print the reports which is not a defaul printer.

I did not find any solution yet... any ideas ... It will be a great help for me..
