Accessing MSDE 2000

I have downloaded msde 2000. I have edited and saved the setup.ini file for
a sa password.
[Options]
SAPWD="cfm56z"
Setup appears to run and install msde. However when I try to access it with
DbatMGR, I get
SQL Server does not exist or access is denied
Any suggestions would be helpful.

this kind of error is a general exception raised by MDAC... please check
